Husband-and-wife owners Watson and Joycelyn Parks opened De’Village in 2001 to bring some African culture to the Reading Terminal Market. Now, their stand is a calm, incensed oasis among bustling food stalls, where tourists and locals alike browse through African jewelry, artwork, fabrics, and other accessories and decorations. Come here for unique gifts, handcrafted jewelry and intricate sculptures and other pieces imported from Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana.
And while you’re there, make sure to strike up a conversation with whichever owner is at the register. The Park family has a long history in city and are always happy to share their story and insights on Philadelphia culture.
