Join the Reading Terminal Market Ambassador Program and help welcome visitors, share your love for the Market, and contribute to its vibrant community. Serving as an Ambassador is a light lift and a great way to stay connected to the heart of Philadelphia.
Whether you’re a regular or new to the Market, becoming an Ambassador is simple, fun, and flexible.
About the Ambassador Program
Ambassadors will serve as Market volunteers – helping visitors navigate the Market, along with sharing what they know and love about both Reading Terminal and Philadelphia.
How to become an Ambassador
Once you’ve applied online – you will hear back from our program coordinator to learn more about the program structure and volunteer scheduling process.
Are there specific requirements?
No! We welcome anyone from Philadelphia and the tri-state area.
Any age and all walks of life are welcome!

As a Reading Terminal Market Ambassador, volunteer activities include but are not limited to:
- Warmly greeting visitors and answering questions about the Market’s history, Merchants, and offerings.
- Providing accurate, up-to-date information on Merchant products, food options, and special events.
- Helping guests explore the Market’s diversity, including details on various food types and artisan goods.
- Guiding visitors through the layout, highlighting areas such as restrooms and eating zones.
Scheduling and Assignments:
- Currently, Ambassadors are on-site 4 days a week, i.e., Thursday through Sunday – with the intention to have volunteers on-site 7 days a week by Winter 2025.
- Ambassadors cover the peak times of the day in 2 to 3 hour shifts.
- Once fully onboarded, there is an electronic scheduling process for the volunteer shifts.
- During your time on the Market floor you will be posted in RTM’s Center Court or the Welcome Center (Information Desk on 12th Street).
Volunteer Expectations:
- To volunteer at least one shift a month (3 hours).
- Become knowledgeable about the history of the Reading Terminal Market and the Merchants.
- Comfort working in a busy urban environment.
- Friendly demeanor.
- Complete the training requirements for the Ambassador Volunteer role.
- A love for the Market and Philadelphia!
