Today, we are excited to unveil our brand new Reading Terminal Holiday Railroad train display to kick off the holiday season. This year’s display will feature five distinct vignettes and play home to 25 individual trains. Unlike the previous display which featured one continuous track, this year’s new display features five distinct scenes: 1930’s Reading Terminal Market, a historic look back when the trains ran above your head as you shopped the Market; Pennsylvania Dutch countryside, portraying Amish farmers in their fields, gardens, and barns, growing the foods you find at the Market; The Underground – The Reading Terminal Market and Septa, a diorama that cuts through the stone basement wall to connect RTM and the Market Frankford line’s 11th Street station; The North Pole, where trains drop off passengers for the Santa Trolley Shuttle to see Santa and his reindeer; and The Olde English Railway, a diverse set of engines journeying through a small island off the coast of England.
The new display is completely interactive, with all trains, lights, and devices being controlled by Reading Terminal visitors. The exhibit was designed by Alley Friends Architects Director Al Johnson. All modules were constructed using RRinaBOX Layout Kits with full-size patterns.
*The display will be closed Christmas Day, along with the rest of the Market.
