Since 2003, the Fair Food Farmstand has operated as the farm-to-consumer wing of Fair Food, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing local food to the marketplace and promoting a humane, sustainable agriculture system in the Delaware Valley region. All products sold at the Farmstand are sourced from family farms and food producers within about 150 miles of Philadelphia. Look for hard-to-find items like fiddlehead ferns and ramps in the spring, sour cherries and fresh figs in the summer, no-spray cranberries and heritage breed turkeys in the fall, and fresh, greenhouse-grown local produce in the winter - plus eggs, dairy, meats, and pantry items year-round. The Fair Food Farmstand harks back to Reading Terminal Market's initial purpose - a place for local growers to bring their goods to city customers - and combines the freshness of a farmer's market with the convenience of a grocery store.
