Helen Tangires, the author of Public Markets will visit the Market to discuss and sign copies of her book featuring Reading Terminal Market, Public Markets is a richly illustrated publication of the wide variety of buildings and spaces devoted to the urban marketplace. More than 800 historical and contemporary photographs, architectural drawings, maps, and posters from around the world depict the many types of public markets. It depicts the public market as the most enduring form of global, urban food exchange, and a strong sense of tradition continues to inform their architecture and design.

Every Wednesday & Saturday Learn the story behind cheese steaks, hoagies, pretzels and other Philly food favorites, and the 114-year history of the vibrant Reading Terminal Market where they’re sold during this 75-minute, food-writer-led walking tour.
The tour leaves from the Market information desk at 12th and Filbert streets in the heart of downtown Philadelphia at 10 a.m. every Wednesday and Saturday. Reservations Required.
Cost is $14.95 for adults and $8.95 for children ages 7 to 11. Private tours also available.
